New Students - International Student Schedule
1) Find out what the Visa requirements in your country are for entering Germany as a student. In some cases you will have to open a German bank account and deposit a holding fund. Students from China must obtain APS certification
2) Contact the Program Coordinator if you need housing in Berlin
3) Pay first semester student fees
4) Consider your health insurance options.

· Before you leave home for Berlin
1) Plan to arrive in Berlin on September 29th or 30th at the latest.
2) Inform the program coordinator of your travel arrangements and when you expect to arrive in Berlin. If you would like someone to meet you at the airport or train station and help you find your way, you can contact a student organization of the Humboldt University called Orbis They provide volunteers who are often international students themselves and speak English.
3) Make arrangements for temporary accommodations. We recommend the hostel called Heart of Gold because it is right around the corner from our offices here at Dorotheenstraße. But you can find other hostels at this link. If you have made arrangements to live in a student dormitory you may also wish to find a hostel that is close to your new dormitory.

· When you first arrive in Berlin and before the program starts on October 5th, 2009
When you arrive in Berlin you will need to travel around the city quite a bit to establish your housing and register your new residence. Thus, you should either plan to take taxis or become familiar with the public transportation system in Berlin. If you do not feel comfortable trying to learn the public transportation network on your own, contact a student volunteer at Orbis to help you manage.

Thursday, October 1st:
1) If you have reserved a room in a dormitory then click here to find out what you will need to do to move in and when to do it.
2) Once you have moved into your new dormitory or apartment you will need to officially register your residence with the city. It is a good idea to register before the program begins because you may need your residence certificate for subsequent paperwork.

Friday, October 2nd:

Come to the Molecular Medicine office at Dorotheenstraße 94 Here the program coordinator can help you
1) sign up for German health insurance
2) establish a German bank account if you have not done so already
3) give you a certificate of study and program plan that you will need in order to extend your visa.

Saturday, October 3rd is a German holiday. Many shops will be closed. Please plan in advance.
