Non-German students who belong to the European Union will need to go to the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) and obtain a "Freizugigkeits Bescheinigung." More information on this can be found at the immigration office website www.berlin.de/labo.
Non-German students who do NOT belong to the European Union will need to go to the Humboldt University international student services office called Orbis once they have received their temporary registration or "semester
ticket". They have a service through which your immigration documents can be processed relatively quickly. However, you will have to bring the following:
| 1) |
Your passport |
| 2) |
All visa documentation you have collected so far |
| 3) |
Two passport photos (easily obtainable from photo booths found in most train stations) |
| 4) |
Proof of health insurance |
| 5) |
Proof that you are registered as
a student at the Charité |
| 6) |
Proof of Financial support (this is not always necessary. It seems to depend on what country you come from. Check with your embassy as to what is required in your case). |
| 7) |
Acceptance letter to this program written in German or a "Studienbescheinigung". The Program Coordinator will give this to you on the first day of the program. |
When you deliver your passport to Orbis they will bring it to the immigration office for processing. This process usually takes between four and six weeks. During this time you will be without your passport, so please make at least one copy to keep with you at all times.
