New Students - Establishing a Bank Account

In many cases international students must establish a bank account in Germany before they can obtain a visa to enter the country. If that is the case then we recommend opening an account with the Deutsche Bank as they have offices in major cities throughout the world.

If you would like to establish a bank account once you are in Germany, then we recommend the less expensive Berliner Sparkasse. Students from the program regularly use this bank and have received excellent service.

In order to obtain a bank account at any bank in Germany you must provide the following documents:

1) Anmeldung Bescheinigung or residence certificate
2) Passport
3) Studienbescheinigung (A letter in German that says you have been accepted the program – the program coordinator provides this for you on the first day of the program.)

Berliner Sparkasse

The Berliner Sparkasse is a bank with many branches in Berlin. The branch nearest our program offices is located at Luisenstrasse 44, a five minute walk away. Our contact at this branch is Sonja Fucks. He will be happy to help you set up a new bank account.
