If you establish a new residence in Berlin you are required by law to “Anmelden” or register your new address with the city officials. When you register you will receive something called an “Anmeldung Bescheinigung” or registration certificate. This is a document indicating your official residence and you will need it later on to open a bank account, receive health insurance, rent movies, and many other things.
Residence registration is done at a city office called a “Meldestelle.” Follow this link to the various stations where you can register. You will need to bring the following documents with you:
| 1) |
Housing contract proving that you live at the given address |
| 2) |
Passport or valid form of identification |
| 3) |
Registration form which you can download here |
| 4) |
Welcome Money form. Optional. |
