Two letters of Recommendation

The admissions committee requires two letters of recommendation (see below for exceptions). In order to maintain confidentiality, letters must be signed and delivered in a sealed envelope with the referee’s signature across the seal. The sealed envelope can then be sent directly by the referee, or can be included in a package with other application materials.

Please send letters to the following address:

Ms. Naomi Weizenbaum
Program Coordinator for Molecular Medicine Master's Program
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Mitte
Institute für Biochemie Tucholskystrasse 2
D-10117 Berlin-Mitte
Germany

Please note, all application materials we receive must have the same first name (given name) and last name (family name or Surname). We cannot process application materials which arrive with variations of the candidates name. Please also make sure that any email contact you have with the program includes the correct prefix (Mr., Dr., or Ms.) first, then your first name, and then your last name. For example, "Ms. Naomi Weizenbaum". Hyphenated last names are not a problem as long as ALL application documents appear with both portions and the hyphen.

Letters of recommendation can also be sent from referees electronically (via email) so that the admissions committee can review them on time. However, if the candidate is accepted, a hard copy must follow in a signed, sealed envelope before an acceptance can be considered fully official.
The email address is naomi.weizenbaum@charite.de

The letter should be written by someone with direct experience of the applicant in an academic or professional setting and who is well familiar with the applicant’s intellectual strengths and weaknesses. There is no particular form according to which the letter must be written. However, guidelines for writing letters of recommendation can be downloaded by clicking here (PDF).

In some cases it may be necessary for a member of the admissions committee to contact the author. Therefore, it is essential that the author provide contact information.

The admissions committee recognizes that in some cases it may not be possible for a candidate to obtain written recommendations, or any recommendation at all. If so, you can still apply to the program, but you should contact the program coordinator as soon as possible and explain the situation. In some cases, the requirement for letters of recommendation can be waived, or replaced by an interview, or other means.
