Please note, all application materials we receive must have the same first name (given name) and last name (family name or Surname). We cannot process application materials which arrive with variations of the candidates name. Please also make sure that any email contact you have with the program includes the correct prefix (Mr., Dr., or Ms.) first, then your first name, and then your last name. For example, "Ms. Naomi Weizenbaum". Hyphenated last names are not a problem as long as ALL application documents appear with both portions and the hyphen.

One of the most important parts of the application form are the short essays at the end. Please take your time writing these essays as the admissions committee places great emphasis on their content.

Make sure you consider the three following hints when answering the final essay question regarding your reason for applying:

1) Write at least one full page, but not more than two. Use extra paper if necessary, or send answers to essay questions as separate Word documents to admissions-molmed@charite.de.

2) Make sure the English is perfect. Sloppy grammar indicates sloppy thinking. Also, the program is so competitive that people who do not take the time to write well are not taken seriously and have little chance of being admitted.

3) Focus on your PROFESSIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL interests. Many applicants include passionate explanations of their emotional, religious, or patriotic reasons for wanting to apply. The admissions committee is NOT interested in these factors, even if they are important to you.

4) Your essay will be more effective if you can explain, with specific examples, why you are motivated to pursue research. Just stating that you are motivated is not enough. Anyone can write that they are motivated. In this essay you need to explain why YOU are motivated. What is it that you like about research? What do you like about pursuing science generally? What specific experiences have you had that motivated you to want to pursue scientific research? These experiences should themselves be scientific or intellectual in nature. Explaining that you are motivated for emotional reasons, like you have seen sick people and you would like to help cure them, is not a very convincing reason because it has little to do with reason.
