Prof. Bertram Wiedenmann is Chair of Hepatology and Gastroenterology & the Interdisciplinary Centre of Metabolism at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. His major research interests are molecular and cell biology involving especially cellular signal transduction pathways in the field of gastrointestinal oncology.
Prof. Wiedenmann got his MD from the Technical University of Munich, Medical School, in 1980. He completed a Fulbright Research Fellowship in haematology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY, USA (1980-1982). He was a research associate in cell biology at the Biological Laboratories, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., USA (1982-1983), and at the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, Germany (1983-1984). He trained as a fellow in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Heidelberg medical school (1984-1990). Thereafter, he was appointed senior registrar and in 1993, full professor of internal medicine (division of gastroenterology) at the Free University medical school in Berlin. Since 1997, Prof. Wiedenmann has been chairman of the division of hepatology and gastroenterology at Charité Medical School, Campus Virchow-Klinikum in Berlin.
He is a member of several international and national societies, such as the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCL), the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) and he is chairman of the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS), director of the Graduate School Program “Signal recognition and transduction” and coordinator of the site management organisation (SMO) for clinical studies (KKS Charité) of the Charité Medical School.
Prof. Wiedenmann has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and is a reviewer for many international and national journals.
