Scientific interests

• Molecular epidemiology, evolution, cell biology and pathogenesis of infections by emerging viruses including the development of diagnostic tests, vaccines and virus inhibitors (hantaviruses)
• Mechanisms of the reactivation and pathogenesis of virus infections in humans and therapeutic approaches to influence these processes (human cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B virus)
• Molecular recognition by DNA-interacting enzymes (restriction endonucleases, DNA methyltransferases) and their use in molecular diagnostics (transcriptome analysis)
