While the program directors oversee the program as a whole, each module is supervised by a module coordinator who is directly responsible for the teaching in his or her module. Each is supported by a deputy coordinator and all are specialists in their field. As such they are well connected both at the Charité and at a variety of other scientific institutions in Berlin. Thus, module coordinators are able to recruit faculty from a wide variety of sources, and select only those with significant expertise, breadth of knowledge, and commitment to teaching. Furthermore, selected faculty come from both research institutes and the clinic; this means that students receive instruction on not only on basic theory and current research developments but also on the relevance of this research for the patient. Some of the lecturers in the program are medical doctors and take the students directly into the clinic as part of their teaching.
Overall, more than 60 professors, lecturers, medical doctors and researchers participate in the program for each class of students. Given the large number of institutions and individuals involved both students and faculty enjoy ample opportunities to network and develop further collaborations. Such networking not only serves the faculty and students directly involved, but also strengthens the Charité as an institution in Berlin.
